Muizenberg is situated 25km south of Cape Town, a 25 minute car trip from the city, and is on the Simon's Town - Cape Town railway line. Boyes drive is a scenic mountain route which by-passes the centre of Muizenberg and continues to Kalk Bay. The views across the bay towards the Hottentots Holland Mountains are well worth the climb if you are without a car. Nestling below the 507m high Muizenberg mountain is one of the famous beach resort of the Cape Peninsula.
Muizenberg has a perfect bathing beach, gently sloping, with flat, hard sand, moderate waves and safe swimming, ideal for young children. Beneath the elevated promenade at the pavilion are change rooms, toilets and showers. The beach superintendent's office is at the end of the promenade. The hire of deck chairs may be arranged at the office. A tea room and refeshment kiosk adjoin the promenade.
There are landscaped gardens, a water-slide, boat pond, children's playground and a putt-putt course. The Muizenberg pavilion includes a conference hall, meeting rooms and a restaurant. To the north-east lies Sunrise Beach, an open stretch of beach safe for bathing. For anglers all seasons are good, each month bringing its own species of fish into the bay.
