World Cup Fever hits Cape Town
The world cup is finally upon us and the atmosphere is joyous. SA soccer fans must be the most colourful in the world, with their multi-coloured South African flags, yellow and green Bafana jerseys, elaborate makarapa hats, oversized goggles, vuvuzelas and much more.
In Cape Town – the gateway to Africa, things are really hotting up. The V & A Waterfront - just a stone’s throw from the Cape Town Stadium is alive with activity. Flags are flying high, the shop windows are full of World Cup regalia and every language can be heard at the harbourside café’s and bistro’s.
Yes, Cape Town is officially ‘on show’ and determined not to disappoint. The football spectacle has ignited a positive sense of patriotism amongst the people who are donning S A flag scarves, beanies, footwear, Bafana t-shirts and have even decorated their vehicles with colourful mirror sox and flags.
Whether Bafana Bafana wins or loses the World Cup, Mzansi's (people of the south) fans will sure win a million hearts with their fan regalia and hospitable message: ‘Welcome to the Rainbow Nation’.
Cape Town urges all South Africans to get with the World Cup party, embrace it and have fun!
Good luck Bafana Bafana!
